The Battle Over Our Mind
What is it about us women and “over thinking” things? My husband who knows me better than anyone else can tell you that I over think things way too much. I can come up with a whole scenario in my head about a situation that usually will never happen. One of my friends sent me a funny meme this week that said, “ *Over analyzes situation, *immediately overreacts, *everything turns out fine.” It’s funny to laugh about because so many of us do it, but man does the enemy have a hay day with over thinkers!
Usually when we over think or over analyze a situation, the outcome is negative, but why is that? If you look up the definition of over thinking, it means to dwell on or worry about the same thing repeatedly. Keyword there would be worry. Worrying is basically telling the Lord, “Hey, I don’t trust you, sorry.” When we worry or dwell on a situation, our focus is totally on the wrong thing, and that’s when the enemy loves to come barging in. You may have heard the saying, “The mind is the devil’s playground.” Yep. There’s a reason for that. He knows where and how to attack us, and it’s through our minds. If you think about it, where does sin start? It starts in our minds! The mind is where we form insecurities, we start to listen and believe the lies the enemy is whispering to us, and the mind is where we begin to worry and over think things.
God knows that’s where the enemy likes to attack us, that’s why His Word tells us in Romans 12:2, “To be transformed by the renewal of our minds.” To be transformed, meaning to make a thorough or dramatic change. To change the way you think completely. For me, it’s a daily process when it comes to renewing my mind. Not a once a week, or once a month thing, but a daily process. I have to spend time with the Lord each day, seeking Him through His Word and prayer, asking Him to help me think the way He does. If I don’t renew my mind each day, it will show in my actions, thoughts, and words. It’s a spiritual warfare over our minds each and every day and if we aren’t suited up with our spiritual armor, we will fail.
Colossians 3:2 says, “Set your minds on things above, not on this earth.” To set our minds, meaning we have the option or choice to change our thinking. To set your mind on the things of Christ will change your thinking for the better. Whatever the situation that you are dealing with right now, whatever you may be over thinking or worrying about, I pray that you will give those thoughts to the Lord. “And the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your heart, and your mind.” -Philippians 4:7
