Unhidden Daughters
While we may go by different titles: Sister, Niece, Aunt, Wife, Mother, Mother-in-law, Grandmother or Great-grandmother, there is one title that we all share: Daughter. We were all brought into this world by someone. Some of us have been blessed with wonderful mothers and some of us have never even met the woman that brought us into this world. In Luke 8: 40-48, we see where Jesus has returned from the Sea of Galilee and there was a crowd of people waiting on Him.
“And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all her living on physicians, she could not be healed by anyone. She came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, and immediately her discharge of blood ceased. And Jesus said, "Who was it that touched me?" When all denied it, Peter said, "Master, the crowds surround you and are pressing in on you!"But Jesus said, "Someone touched me, for I perceive that power has gone out from me." And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed.
And he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace."
My favorite part about this passage is not necessarily the healing that takes place, but the part in verse 47 that says, “The woman saw that she was not hidden.” And then Jesus proceeds to call her “Daughter.” A term of endearment.
I don’t know about you but so many times I have felt hidden in this world. I have felt like my purpose in life has been hidden, or I have felt like God has not seen or heard me. There have been times I have wanted to throw an adult temper tantrum and say to Him, “Do you not see me anymore? Do you not care about me anymore?” And it feels like I’m lost in this crowded world. I’m left feeling hidden and alone. When in reality, I have to ask myself, am I really seeking to get a grasp on that tassel or just a piece of that fringe on His garment? Am I really striving to break through that crowd to meet Him? And most of the time my answer is no, I’m not. You see, In verse 45 when Jesus asked, “who touched me,?” He already knew who it was.
Daughter, He sees you and your problems and your burdens. You are not hidden from Him. He wants us to bring our problems to Him. I’m encouraging us, as daughters of all different ages and backgrounds, who struggle with insecurities to reach for that tassel, that little piece of fringe and call upon His name. When you feel the struggle of raising kids, the arguments with a spouse, the loneliness of a specific season you are in, a broken relationship, the busyness of a job, the loss of a loved one, I want you to know that He remembers and sees YOU. We are all daughters of a beautiful, loving, Heavenly Father that are not hidden. When you feel hidden and alone, remind yourself of this beautiful truth: He sees you!
